For the book trailer for ‘The Freeing of Jonathon Mark’ I chose to bring a fictional element of the book to life and demonstrate how it would work. The element I chose was ‘The Rage Room Concept’.
In ‘The Freeing of Jonathon Mark’ the ‘Rage Room Concept’ is proposed to society as a solution to modern grief. Modern grief is all the little nuances and annoyances important in nobody else’s lives except our own. When people speak, or grief about these moments to others they spread like a negative energy, griefing up whoever we tell. This energy spreads through society like a virus. ‘The Rage Room Concept’ is somewhere you can empty yourself of grief without spreading it through society.
In ‘The Freeing of Jonathon Mark’ the Rage Room Concept is readily available but under-utilized as people prefer a more one-on-one solution. They prefer to see a Taker.
The following is an extract from the book:
As I approach the Metro entrance, I pause mid-stride to take in the sight of a man, head stuck up out of sight inside a Rage Room Box made all red and shiny to stand out like a phone booth, and almost as commonly found. His hands, they’re gripped white-knuckle tight on the handles on it’s outside.
I’ll never get used to the sight; body and legs shaking and raging in a silent dance to the ranting and screaming of the owner’s head inside. It’s the city’s solution to the spreading of grief through the population; a full-blown grief spout into the absorbent walls of the interior of the box, a moment taken to release all your anger, your frustrations, your annoyance without aiming it at someone else. Valid in its intent, but like the Scoop-the-Poop policy, the Portable Rage Room Concept, it’s doomed to failure through non-compliance. Trust me; people prefer a one-on-one grief release.
The man, he gives one final shake, lifts his legs off the ground a final time, and then he plonks them back down, lets go of the handles, and slips his head out the bottom of the box. His hair, it’s matted blonde/brown against his brow; yeah, it can get hot in one of those, despite the ventilation tube branching up. Ventilation tube? Yeah, right. Try grief spout, but hey, don’t get me started. It’s too early in the morning for conspiracy theories.
